How do I reset a barcode scanner or mobile computer?

Explore preventive maintenance

Preventive battery replacement, Wi-Fi coverage audit and a general check of your scanners and mobile computers.

In brief. A handheld barcode scanner returns to its factory settings when you scan the reset barcode printed in the manufacturer's guide. A mobile computer is restarted, then, if necessary, reset from its settings or from a recovery menu (Recovery). Before any factory reset of a mobile computer, back up your data: it is erased.

The different levels of reset

These causes are taken from the manufacturers' guides; each example names the model concerned. The entry for your model, in the model-by-model table below, gives the exact procedure.

  1. Forced restart of a mobile computerA frozen mobile computer is brought back with a forced restart: Power button held for about 8 seconds on the Honeywell CK62 and CK65, Power alone for at least 16 seconds on the Zebra MC9300, trigger, Power and Scan for at least 6 seconds on the MC9400.
  2. Factory settings of a scanner“RETURN TO FACTORY DEFAULTS” barcode on the Zebra DS3600; “Factory Default” on the Unitech MS852B, which also erases the Bluetooth pairing, whereas “Reset Setting” keeps it.
  3. Scanner settings onlyOn a mobile computer, you can reset just the scanning settings: “Reset configuration” at the bottom of the Scanner Options page in Datalogic Settings (Falcon X60), “Restore all defaults” in the scan settings (Honeywell CK65, ScanPal EDA61K).
  4. Factory reset of a mobile computer“Erase all data (factory reset)” in the Android settings (Unitech HT730, CipherLab RK25 and RK26), or from the Recovery menu (Datalogic Falcon X4). All data is erased; on the RK25, CipherLab requires a verification code.
  5. Fixed-mount scannersZebra FS scanners are reset by holding the TRIG button while the power is restored; on the Datalogic Matrix 120 and 220, you hold the X-PRESS button at power-on until the lights flash, then release it and press it again: three high beeps confirm. If it is released too late, the scanner enters its Loader program, which you exit by switching the power off and back on.

Before resetting

  1. Try a restart firstIt restarts the device without resetting it.
  2. Note your settingsInterface, keyboard country, symbologies, Wi-Fi profiles: a return to factory settings resets them.
  3. Back up a mobile computer's dataA factory reset erases it.
  4. Follow the procedure in your model's guideButton combinations and reset barcodes change from one model to another.

Caution: A factory reset erases the mobile computer's data and settings. On a fleet managed by your IT department, ask them before starting one.
